Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day)

Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day)

Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day)

Today, April 23rd, is the Saint George's Day. Celebrated in many countries, Saint Georges is mainly know in Spain as the patron saint of the Catalonia (but also of the areas of Aragon and Valencia).

About the Catalonia, which want to be separated of the Spain, the government of Catalonia asked, at the beginning of this month, the right to realize a referendum about the secession. But this ask was rejected by the spanish parliament. In spite of this refusal, the government of this region still wants to organize this referendum and looks for another legal way to do it.

Saint Georges is also the patron saint of the England. Another part of the Europe where the secessionist speech is also present. Indeed, the Scotland will conduct a referendum, in September, to decide if the scottish people will leave the United Kingdom and the people of London also plan to conduct another referendum, in three years, about the European Union and if they decide to stay or not in it.

Far away of all these too serious matters, the Saint George's Day is also, in Catalonia, the day of the lovers (El dia de la Rosa (The Day of the Rose)) and of the books (El dia del Llibre (The Day of the Book)).
